The MiraDry ® treatment
On the day of the treatment, the arm pits are cleaned and the area to be treated is marked using a template that fits exactly to your armpit. Local anesthesia is done throughout the area, after which the actual treatment begins:
The MiraDry ® bioTip is placed in the armpit and moved around to numerous points across the sweat-producing area. Typically a gentle suction can be felt because the machine creates a vacuum, which ensures that the skin is properly placed throughout the treatment. Each point measures 10 × 30 mm, and the treatment lasts about 45 seconds at each treatment site, of which half of the time is used for heating the area and the other for cooling. Because of the local anesthesia, you will not be able to tell the difference between these two.

How does MiraDry ® work?
The MiraDry ® device delivers controlled electromagnetic energy to several small points in the armpit, whereby sweat glands are destroyed. This is done by selectively heating the thin layer of the skin where the glands are located. By physically rotating dipolar molecules between the fatty tissue in the armpit and the deionized water in MiraDry ® machine, the sweat glands are permanently removed by so-called thermolysis. This reduces body odor and perspiration under the arms significantly and permanently, as sweat glands do not have the ability to regenerate themselves.
Since the sweat glands are located closely to the hair follicles in the armpits, there may also be a reduction in the hair in the treated area. This is seen in approximately 25% of the patients treated with MiraDry ®.
